The Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has been asked to ban the sale of liquor at Calangute dance bars after midnight while wealthy entrepreneurs can continue the sale of liquor 24x7. Panaji casinos and Calangute dance bars both have the requisite excise license to operate and the activities that are being carried out within closed doors serves two economic classes of tourists that bring revenue to the state. Till date not a single case has been registered by Calangute Police against dance bars allegedly for carrying out illegal activities. The waste oil sediments of Burger Paint industry have percolated into the aquifer destroying the wells on leeward side of the hill in Saipem, Candolim and Gauravaddo, Calangute . Although the GSPCB has revoked their water & air consent to operate but not yet filed complaint before the competent authority to register the offence under section 15 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986 nor has the Calangute Citezens Forum registered a complaint for destroying Calangute citizens drinking water wells with chemical residue before the Member Secretary of GSPCB despite Calangute Ex Sarpanch Shawn Martin being a sitting member of the GSPCB.
