Chandor-Cavorim panchayat must fix house tax receipt mess

The village panchayat office collects house tax and garbage collection fees from villagers every year. When paying house tax, the receipt should mention the name of the ward where you live. However, at the Chandor-Cavorim village panchayat office, receipts often show the names of other neighbouring wards, causing confusion for taxpayers. We often need to submit copies of house tax receipts to government offices, and these errors create problems.

House NOCs and other permissions are filed with the correct ward name, so why is the panchayat office not taking responsibility to correct these mistakes that have continued for years? Why is the panchayat office and secretary not conducting a survey to update and correct ward addresses?

Recently, a few people from the Mena-Cavorim ward had their addresses corrected after submitting applications to the panchayat office. But what about the other residents of my ward and other wards in Chandor-Cavorim? Why should the wrong ward name appear on your house tax receipt after you have paid your tax?

It is the responsibility of the elected panch and sarpanch to ensure these errors are corrected, and they should inform the panchayat secretary, who must take action. The panch knows the wards and their people better than the secretary does. I hope the village panchayat office will listen to the people, correct the address errors on house tax receipts, and resolve this issue as soon as possible. Please keep personal egos aside and work in the interest of the public. I request the people of Chandor to question the office and not just pay the tax blindly without checking what is written on the receipt.

Cancer-causing gutka has made rapid inroads in our state, courtesy of migrant labourers and unscrupulous traders, much to the detriment of Goan youngsters. What…
