The BJP government in Uttarakhand repealed the Char Dham (Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri) temple management law after protests by priests and pro-Hindu organizations.
This was a great achievement for Hindus. The law was retracted after the Governor signed it. BJP MP Dr Subramanian Swamy had also filed a petition against this law.
After the cancellation of this law, the management of Char Dham temples will be the same as before. The role of temples is important in our culture, but currently, some of their essential requirements have been neglected.
So Hindu temples should essentially be administered by devotees and not by the government. This is a very good example showing that if Hindus oppose collectively and persistently, then the government has to give in.
To relieve all the temples which are controlled by the government, all the priests, religious organisations and devout Hindus all over the country should agitate collectively to oppose such control.
