It is election time and political parties and prospective candidates have started wooing their voters.
Some papers are also carrying out sustained campaign of educating the voters. But the voters are largely motivated by personal equation with the candidate based on caste, religion and some petty favours received or promises made.
Nobody cares about their past antecedents or precedents of work with track record and passion for sustained social work or past records of defections. The truth is many times defectors are re-elected by the very same voters.
Of late, the importance of the legislator has degenerated into promises of roads, bridge constructions and other activities.
Parties have no reasonable objectives or criteria for selecting or nominating candidates and with illiteracy being high, the right choice always suffers.
In fact those with criminal background but not yet convicted is bane of Indian politics. Muscle power and financial clout rules the day. It’s time to make the right choice for the next five years.
