People's power in democracy took centerstage in Old Goa when the protests led by groups of activists successfully overpowered the mighty aristocrats. People's power turned them submissive and forced the authorities to revoke the construction permissions given for building on heritage sites.
There is something else that also needs utmost attention: hundreds of bags of filled with filth, plastic, organic material and the like that lies unattended at the World Heritage Site post the celebrations of St Francis Xavier. No individual or groups of people have protested against this menace.
These same governmental organisations have been tasked to run the "Swacchh Bharat Mission" alongside "Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav". In fact, many 'activities' have also been carried out and documented with geotagged photos. But filth accumulation next to ASI protected site narrates an oxymoron.
Lack of dustbins is what plagues the heritage site. The government has finances to splurge on resplendent boards and banners displaying tall slogans, but not a penny to spend on such matters.
