Finally, it’s good to see that all the comunidade members met to fight the illegal takeover of their land by the government through the proposed amendment of Code of Comunidades.
In their decision making they must keep in mind that the government uses blackmail, bribes and threats to get their illegal ways. Presently, the government has laid eyes on the huge comunidade land in Dabolim for the mini-India project and have asked the comunidade there to deliberate and sanction the same.
Why must the comunidades deliberate on the goverfnment’s needs for land and amendments? Why should the comunidade then discuss the same knowing fully well that many insiders will be subject to blackmail and threats?
The comunidades should ask the government to provide details of all comunidade land acquired by the government and for what purpose and how has this been in the interests of the comunidade.
The government also wants 2 lakh square metres of comunidade land at the Kadamba Plateau to profit for the same by leasing out offices like they did at the Patto Plaza. Is this in public interest?
How does it benefit the land holdings of the comunidade for the future components?
In fact, the government should begin proceedings to acquire land from land owners like politicians and builders who have acquired lakhs of square metres illegally and some who have converted land.
