While the BJP is the main target of activists, especially the Enough is Enough Movement, the Congress party should recognise that ‘enough is enough’ applies to them as well. Yuri Alemao, Leader of the Opposition and Congress MLA from Cuncolim, has spoken out against the policies of the BJP-led Goa government.
However, it is unclear why he is not taking stronger action to address the ongoing development in Cuncolim and Chandor through large villa and housing projects. If the Congress claims that the BJP is responsible for the situation in Goa, how are municipal and village bodies under Congress control granting approvals for these projects? The Congress party has questions to answer.
While I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, the facts suggest that the party appears to be supporting these developers. The Congress should lead by example and ensure that these projects are stopped. Otherwise, voters may consider boycotting the Congress in the next elections, along with the BJP.
