The Shirgao Lairai Zatra is a powerful symbol of faith, but managing such a large gathering also requires strong responsibility. This year, the administration has shown a clear shift towards better discipline and safety under the leadership of CM Pramod Sawant. From carrying out detailed mock drills to deploying over 1,400 officials round the clock, the government has ensured proper vigilance and preparedness at every level. These drills, involving the police, fire and health departments, were important in testing real-time emergency response and helping to avoid past mishaps. The setting up of a centralised control room, along with CCTV surveillance, has further improved monitoring and allowed quick action in case of any situation.

However, safety is a shared responsibility. Devotion must go hand in hand with discipline. It is important that every bhavik follows the instructions given by officials and takes part in the rituals peacefully, without causing any disturbance. This year’s organised approach sets a strong example. Other devasthans across Goa should also adopt similar safety measures. Overall, this proactive effort deserves appreciation, ensuring that faith is observed with order, dignity and maximum safety.
