We are showing yet again that we as Indians continue to be immature. This is being said in the context of Adhir Chaudhury using the term 'Rashtrapatni' while referring to President Droupadi Murmu. The first thing about this issue is that even in the 75th year after Independence we continue to carry over the colonial hangover and use the designations of President, Prime Minister, etc. Could we not have come up with designations more aligned with the Indian ethos and hopefully more gender neutral? The second thing is that when we say Rashtrapati for the President, he is not the husband of all Indian women! It is only a designation for the Head of State. So also calling a woman President Rashtrapatni, does not make her the wife of all Indian men. Thirdly, we talk ad nauseum of gender equality and so the patni is as equal as the pati. Lastly, Adhir Chaudhuri can make a 'slip of the tongue' which we can grant him.Thus we as a country including our politician babus in Parliament should show greater rationale and maturity and not waste time on such non-issues but concentrate on legislative work.
