Covid death toll not sufficiently curtailed

Although about 38 crore Covishield and Covaxin vaccines have been administered in India so far still considering that the second wave started about the time vaccines began to be administered, it is an alarming fact that 2,50,000 deaths have occurred so far since the beginning of March. To add to this second wave toll, a total of 1,57,000 fatalities have occurred in the first wave, totally amounting to 4,07,000 deaths. The point of concern is that though health facilities have been boosted and vaccines are being administrated, the death toll has not been sufficiently curtailed. It is noted that though the peak number of new infected cases was about 4,14,000, this has reduced to about 39,000 on a daily basis, but the number of deaths have not reduced but have now almost plateaued at 800-900 daily deaths. It is to be noted that in countries such as the US and the UK, post vaccination the number of deaths has been curtailed to about a tenth of the toll in recent days. It is thus imminent that India needs to not lower its guard and follow strict norms in order to reduce fatalities.
