This is with reference to the report, "Tragic start to new year, mishap kills 4… Earthquake……..- The Goan Everyday - January 2, 2024." It was indeed sad to read of such tragic news of four people getting killed on New Year's Eve/New Year's Day in separate incidents in Goa and across the country, for whatever reason. Nobody would wish for such a start to a new year. There are news reports of four people killed in fresh violence in Manipur. Japan was also rocked by couple of earthquakes on New Year's Day causing untold damage to life and property. One begins to wonder, what meaning does the new year have for the families of the deceased? This perhaps only goes to show the uncertainties of life. In the meanwhile, in the midst of such gloomy news there are news pictures of eight babies born at Jerbai Wadia at Parel, Mumbai on New Year's Day. Eight new lives with new hope. What is in store for these new born babies, only time will tell.
