This is in reference to a report appearing on July 10 in The Goan newspaper headlined “Plaints of loud music along coast have decreased: SP “ The Noise Committee members appointed by High Court in suo moto PIL 4 of 2006 welcome the initiative taken by the North Goa Superintendent of Police Sobit Saxena by providing calibrated decibel meters to all police stations that have been installed by the engineer of the Goa State Pollution Control Broad .
The Goa Police now can seize all audio systems, public address systems used by the entertainment organizers, without being fitted with sound limiter vide Notification No 7/4/98/STE/DIR/Part-IV/412 dated 31.07.2020 published in Official Gazette Series II No 19 dated 06-08-2020 and take action under the section 15 of the Environment Protection Act,1986 for “Sale and Use” of any such sound instrument or a musical instrument or a sound amplifier purchased and used without the installation of noise limiter in outdoor areas.
The Goa Police are also empowered to seize/seal equipment and impose fine of Rs 10,000 upto Rs 25,000 as compensation for violation of Noise Pollution Rules, 2000.
