The Tivim Comunidade Management has issued defamation notices to around 15 individuals, including prominent Gaunkars, over questions raised about a controversial land deal involving a Pune-based university. In my view, these defamation notices are unnecessary. Instead, the management should address all concerns raised by the Gaunkars and Tivim villagers. If they cannot provide clear answers, they should show the maturity and humility to cancel the deal. This land is a cherished inheritance, protected by our ancestors, and must not be squandered away.
What’s particularly puzzling is the determination of certain Tivim Comunidade members to push this deal through. In Goa, it is widely known that some communidade members across different villages have been found guilty of corruption and are responsible for encroachments and harm to comunidade lands.
It’s time for Goans, including Tivim villagers and Gaunkars, to actively monitor their comunidade management and hold them accountable. Instead of issuing defamation notices, the Tivim Comunidade Management should engage in open and fair discussions to address the valid concerns raised by the community.
