In light of the fact that the motorcade of TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee was intimidated by disgruntled elements as also that the posters and advertisements of the TMC was defaced and blackened, it would in the fitness of things that matters relating to elections should be supervised by a specially constituted police force that has to be formed and deployed by the Election Commission of India so as to prevent such occurrences from happening again. It may be stressed that the police force deployed to protect the motorcade of Mamata Banerjee was a mute spectator and did not take action to stop the rowdy elements from intimidating the TMC leader. The Election Commission of India has to ensure that election related rallies and meetings are given unbiased protection.
There should be a level playing field for all the parties and no favouritsm should be meted out to the party in power. On Nov 1, the Corporation of the City of Panjim workers were seen removing poll related advertisements on the Miramar - Dona Paula road. This is discrimination against the new political parties entering the poll fray in Goa.
