Goa University NIRF rank has slid further in 2022. It means students from GU are not given preference in jobs when competing against other university students irrespective of the interview outcome. Certain reputed companies will not even call such students for interviews. The UN Sustainable Development Goal number 5 demands gender equality which is highly compromised in India. Rapes in India have gone up by 70.7% mostly after the Nirbhaya gangrape of 2012. According to NCRB 2019 statistics, Rajasthan reported the highest number of rapes among Indian states. Other states in the Hindi heartland region, across North India, such as MP, UP, Haryana and Chhattisgarh, also have the highest incidence of sexual violence against women. Among metropolitan cities, Delhi continued to have the highest incidence of rape at 1,253 cases in 2019, while Jaipur had the highest rape rate (per 100,000 population) Rising cases means the States are not doing enough to reduce the same. One way of correcting this is to ensure migrants from such States are not provided jobs in other States. This will force the administration to take concrete steps.
