Don’t discourage Goan traditions and culture

Our minister, Alexio Sequeira, emphasizes that the crowd size should not exceed 50 to exempt directors from paying pollution board fees. Khell Tiart folk plays, an integral part of our Goan tradition and culture, are showcased annually during the carnival festival, drawing a significant audience that predominantly speaks Konkani in Goa. It appears that people tend to avoid Alexio Sequeira during the carnival Khell Tiart, perhaps due to his controversial statements and perceived disconnect with Goans who voted for him. If five family members attend, the total attendance reaches 50. Sequeira, having aged, is criticized for making nonsensical remarks against Goans, creating doubt about his return to power in the next election.

The argument is raised that larger audiences contribute to a more supportive environment for artists and musicians to showcase their talents. Villagers, regardless of their religious affiliations, come together in large numbers during traditional folk shows, and it seems unfair that the Goa government imposes high fees for sound, even when it remains within acceptable limits.

Critics suggest that Sequeira’s actions align with Chief Minister Sawant’s agenda, accusing them of collaborating to undermine Goa’s tourism and cultural heritage. The plea is made to reconsider the crowd limit, proposing it be set below 100 instead of 50. Concerns are expressed that the government’s policies may jeopardize the vibrancy of Goa’s tourism industry and cultural richness.
