Efficacy of vaccines & flouting of Covid norms

The world will remember 2020 as the worst year and it will be etched in our minds and hearts for a long time. However, 2021 offers some for humanity against Covid. The two vaccines approved in the US have a 95 per cent efficacy rate against the virus. The vaccines approved for India do not clearly specify the efficacy rates. Reports list the same in the range of 70 per cent. Is it worth the amount of money and logistics to push a 70 per cent efficacy rate vaccine when 95 per cent efficacy ones are available? Post-vaccination, we still require to follow social distancing and wear masks. Indians’ penchant for flouting these norms, even when a mutant, fast-spreading virus is lurking around calls for a review of the vaccination programme. Imagine the efforts, logistics and costs involved in the vaccination drive in a populous country like India.

Sancoale incident: Cops stood as mute spectators

A handful of individuals (mostly outsiders) belonging to a right-wing organisation allegedly performed a “pooja” or a ritual at the frontispiece of the old church in Sancoale. The most shocking part about this particular incident was that the cops, who were present in large numbers at the site, instead of taking the individuals to task for daringly trying to disturb the communal harmony of the said village by indulging in such cheap acts were seen standing like mute…
