Two arrested for damaging religious banners in Vasco

Vasco police have arrested two persons on charges of damaging several religious boards and banners at Vaddem in Vasco.

According to police sources, Joseph Fernandes (53) of Vaddem and his son-in-law Angelo Avileli (37) from Quepem have been arrested by Vasco Police in this connection.

"The incident was reported on Saturday night and the duo were allegedly involved in damaging several boards and banners of religious nature near Goa Shipyard Limited, thereby hurting the sentiments of a particular religion.”

The source said both accused were arrested at Curchorem in the wee hours of Tuesday.

Vasco police registered an offence against the duo under Sections 295(A), 504, 143, 506 (ii). While both were produced before the JMFC on Wednesday, the bail application of accused Joseph Fernandes was rejected and he was sent to two days in police custody, while the son-in-law Angelo Avileli was released on bail but directed to have attendance recorded at the Vasco police station for the next seven days, the source added.
