EV dream derails

EVs left in the cold, sales nosedive by 80 percent - The Goan Everyday - April 30, 2025. Even while the authorities are trying to push forward sales of EVs, one begins to wonder: what is the future of EVs? According to the news report, sales of electric vehicles have dropped by 80 percent in the first quarter of 2025 on account of a reduction in subsidies, lack of charging stations, among other factors.   

There’s a question that also arises: how safe are electric vehicles? There have been a number of instances in Mumbai when electric vehicles have caught fire, putting at risk the driver’s life and the lives of passengers and people around. Electric vehicles may be environmentally friendly, but the authorities must take into account the safety factor while pushing for electric vehicles.

I had thought and believed that untouchability was a thing of past in India. It is disheartening to know that untouchability, in some form or the other, still exists in our country.
