The Benaulim MLA has revealed one source of corruption and the reason for the numerous potholes even on new bridges. We now know why last year, Margao witnessed a ‘double’ inauguration of hot mixing roads!
The former late CM Manohar Parrikar had brazenly said he would ensure no potholes on Goan roads and failed. Let us put this life threatening prehistoric milch cow to rest.
The MLA must go deeper. The contracts are awarded with inflated rates to cater to this 10% baksheesh for the MLA. Then there will be cuts for the government officials and even the accounts department who hold up payments till they too are benefitted.
So, if he forgoes his 10%, is not the contractor benefitting? Costing of hot mixing is now known to a ‘T’ and contracts must not cross over this figure plus 10 to 20% profit depending on the value.
The PWD minister must settle this issue. If not, everyone has a right to term the government corrupt.
