Education is deteriorating due to neglect of the education department by the government. Goa University, according to the Union Education Ministry's NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) ranking fell out of the top 100 list. GU is considered to be the home of education, has been continuously falling in the ranking for two years, which is raising concern among educationists. The Institutes entering the NIRF competition are gauged broadly on the parameters of teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and perception. There are many factors where university administration has faired poorly. Most of the faculties don't have doctorate qualifications and lack expertise. It's said that highly performing faculty members are being sidelined and denied opportunities to contribute to the growth of university. The Goa university should strive to improve upon its ranking. GU can be revived if development is on their agenda. For this university should be made accountable to the public. Universities generate ideas, inform citizens and form the basis of a democracy.
