If the purpose of changing the academic year from April is to implement the New Education Policy, then unifying the boards should have been the first step. Instead of having ICSE, CBSE, State, and IB boards, the Chief Minister should have introduced a single board with a standard curriculum. As part of standardisation, the academic cycle’s start and end dates could be discussed.
Starting a new year for just one month, followed by a one-month gap, doesn’t make sense. This will only stress students who struggle to retain information due to the gap. We’re already facing issues with civic sense and unemployability among students. The problem lies not with the academic year cycle but with the quality of the course. That’s where our focus should be, rather than on the academic cycle and uniform dress code.
