The CHOGM road sidewalk in Porvorim is currently a disaster, growing dirtier by the day, and proving inconvenient for pedestrians and morning walkers. Adding to the misery are ongoing sewerage works, with heaps of 20-inch diameter pipes stacked on the sidewalk. Stray dogs and cattle are frequent visitors, barking, squatting in the middle, and forcing pedestrians onto the road, risking their safety.
Additionally, blobs of cow dung and urine are left uncleared by local authorities. Then, there are hawkers, beggars, and those who sleep overnight during temple festivals, leaving behind food leftovers.
Furthermore, some individuals park their vehicles on the sidewalk, blocking the way as if it’s their right. The question then arises, who is responsible for all this mess? Is it not the duty of the concerned village panchayats to ensure public hygiene and a clean environment? When will we witness the much-touted ‘Swachh Bharat’ becoming a daily reality on our streets in Goa?
