The government has decided to provide 16 units of water free to the public. This works out to Rs 61.5 per month. Is it free? Just recently the NIO study showed the presence of microplastics in tap water. Microplastics are not healthy for sure. More harmful is the high manganese content in tap water. Manganese above MDH guidelines ends up in kidneys, bones, pancreas, liver etc. Incidentally, post the visit of the Portugal President to Goa, number of MOUs were signed, including the work of assessment of the Selaulim and Opa water treatment plants and another to undertake a study for removal of manganese from water reservoirs. What happened? With the ‘free’ water announcement will these works be shelved? Also, do you think that at the rate of Rs 61.5per month for a family of 4, your medical bills can be paid or perhaps you could get an RO filter?
