Fundraising by students for schools

The Education Department and Government must transparently disclose the grants allocated to each school and their designated purposes. Parents should be informed about the allocation, whether for salaries, rent, or other miscellaneous activities. The Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (GSCPCR) advocates for a ban on fundraising involving students, prompting clarification on why schools engage students in such activities.

Additionally, Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) committees participate in fundraising, common in many Government-aided schools, especially for major repairs, extensions, or land purchase. Adequate funding is vital for sports equipment, sound systems, and academic activities, ensuring students receive comprehensive exposure.

However, the sufficiency of Government funding to equip all schools adequately remains uncertain, particularly for sports and academic events. Moreover, Government schools often face maintenance delays awaiting approvals and contractors. Some aided schools seek funds from donors or parents. The Education Department should prioritise grants for infrastructure and tournament participation, ensuring comprehensive student support. Questions arise regarding whether school management should solely bear fundraising responsibilities or if Government intervention in school management is necessary.
