Goa govt slow to act again as new variant emerges

The BJP Task Force headed by their non-Govt medico, is once again slow off the blocks! While the Centre has enforced RT-PCR testing for 12 at-risk countries, Goa is once again concentrating on MPT and Dabolim, leaving out the trains! The easy path forward. They recommend 14 days self-isolation and increased testing for passengers other than the 12 at risk nations. IFFI had a lot of foreigners, maybe also from South Africa: when Omicron was disclosed, IFFI was just 8 days old, well within the mandatory 14 days incubation time. Were the delegates screened? Contact tracing done? The US detected its first Omicron patient, who came from South Africa on November 22 and who was fully vaccinated.

The Chief Minister Pramod Sawant was waiting for Centre's instructions on charters! Why? Are they from Gujarat and not Europe? Will the Russian Charters come under the at-risk countries? Luckily for Goa, the Centre has postponed International flights to India. Recall TTAG bemoaning the fact that the Russian charters were delayed because Russians feared infection, forgetting, conveniently, that Russian cases were on the rise! Goa still does not have the right person in the right job!
