The Goa Opinion Poll held on January 16, 1967 was a historic moment that safeguarded the identity and unity of the Goan people. Under the leadership of visionaries like Dr Jack Sequeira, Purushottam Kakodkar, Uday Bhembre, and countless freedom fighters, Goans across religions and castes stood together to protect our unique culture and Konkani language. Today, it is painful to see outsiders and corrupt politicians trying to divide Goa and destroy our land in the name of development and religion, without understanding the sacrifices, history, and geography of our state. Real Goans ” the Niz Goenkars ” know that Goa stands for harmony, nature, and peace. Goans should not be forced onto the streets to protest against projects that threaten our environment and forests. The voice of the people must be heard. Development should not come at the cost of Goa’s soul.
