The Goa Govt has recently introduced the highly controversial Mhaje Ghar Yojana, which I want to particularly refer to the planned regularisation of illegal houses/encroachments on Govt and comunidade lands. The majority of beneficiaries will not be ethnic Goans but actually migrants who have come to Goa and illegally encroached on government/comunidade lands. To reiterate, I support decent rental housing for these migrants, without the need to give away free land/houses (that too which has been encroached illegally which is akin to theft!) Can Goans encroach, build illegal houses and then get them free/legalised in other Indian states? Goans must reject this deceitful Mhaje Ghar Scheme in the current form. These types of populist policies for votes will start an extremely bad trend for Goa. What's stopping politicians of the future changing the official Goa state language to Hindi etc (Konkani/Marathi speakers please note!) to grab the votes of large numbers of people who do not speak the local Goan language! Or start changing the names of Goan villages/cities or re-name Goa itself. Goans must critically think on the same and oppose these vote/power grabbing tactics of the ruling BJP politicians.
