This is with reference to the news report ' Goa faces backlash over soaring prices ahead of tourist season ' (TGE, Oct 15). Charging Rs 60,000 per night by premium resorts and Rs 10,000 per night by 3-4 star hotels, is a loot by any reckoning after the rosy welcome accorded at airports with a brass band in attendance for tourists arriving by charter flights. Only recently there were news reports of a woman tourist who was forced to walk a kilometre in search of a taxi, because app-based taxis were not allowed entry into the hotel premises by the taxi mafia. This is the sorry state of affairs in Goa. Crores of rupees are also spent wastefully every year by the Goa Tourism dept on foreign jaunts wooing foreigners with cultural and Carnival dances. All this has been happening over the years which is why people are now opting for other tourist destinations in Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia , etc. The well-known phrase "You can fool some of the people some of the times, but not everyone every time " is now proving true in Goa.
