The people of Goa are watching with despair and disgust at what is happening on the political turf. But fortunately the voters are not helpless and will assert themselves on polling day.
Switching parties has been as easy as changing railway platforms. We have seen people waking up in one political party and going to bed that same night in another. We have also been watching political aspirants changing party affiliations within days.
The BJP which is today totally discredited has been stooping to all levels in pampering tainted candidates many with a awful criminal record. It has in fact become a refuge for those on the wrong side of the law with the party now having committed political suicide in Porvorim. But we shall soon know whether the voters and more particularly the BJP workers will tolerate this.
With the Courts having failed to adjudicate on those 2019 defections by the 10+2 MLAs, it will be for the electorate to now cast their verdict and seal the fate of those who betrayed the mandate given to them.
The bogey of having defected for the development of the constituency is a hoax which the people have seen through. That political mess was on account of the glut for power and wealth, an act which cannot be forgotten or forgiven.
