Most Goans used to make their own small 'narkasurs' in villages on the eve of Diwali in the past and unitedly enjoy their evenings by casually dancing and playing their simple traditional percussion instruments like 'dhol' etc in front of the 'narkasurs' until the burning of the effigies after midnight without disturbing others.
Unfortunately, today one will practically find most of them (including the highly educated ones) making giant 'narkasurs' with the help of donated money, consuming large quantities of alcohol and disturbing others by dancing to loud blaring DJ music the whole night until the wee hours of the morning in even some of the densely populated residential areas of Goa.
Hey, why can't we celebrate our respective festivals peacefully without lighting those noisy fireworks, playing loud blaring DJ music the whole night and without disturbing the peace of others today? I think that we Goans need to really introspect over this latest ongoing disturbing trend at the very earliest to save the uniqueness of all our major festivals in Goa.
