This is with reference to the report, "Joshimath crisis: Govt's failed to act on warnings - The Goan Everyday January 10, 2023." It is apparent from this news report and TV debates in the media yesterday, that the authorities have been ignoring warnings given by experts about possible hazards in Joshimath and adjoining areas. This situation in Joshimath could have been avoided had they listened to the experts' opinion. Development need not be at the cost of the environment and human lives and property. Apparently, Joshimath city has been built on sinking sand, so to say, and has now been declared as a "sinking city". We need to pause and think of our mindless actions. You cannot stand in front of a lion or a tiger and expect not to be devoured by the them. Man has been ignoring signs from Nature from time to time and if this trend continues we are definitely on the road to disaster. You cannot play with Nature and expect to go scot free. We have to pay a price!
