CAM Goa Pro League: Calangute Association hold Salgaocar

PANAJI

Calangute Association maintained their unbeaten run in the CAM Goa Professional League after playing out a goalless draw against Salgaocar FC at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Tuesday.
By virtue of this result, Calangute Association climbed to second position with seven points from three games while Salgaocar FC moved to fourth position with seven points from four matches.
Calangute Association had an early attempt at goal which was dealt by Salgaocar FC keeper Jason D’Mello.
In the 17th minute, Salgaocar FC’s Mark Carvalho was set through on goal with a defence-splitting pass from the midfield. However, his low shot narrowly missed the mark.
At the half-hour mark, Salgaocar’s Ribhav Sardesai sent in another through pass to Carvalho, and the striker was once again wasteful in front of the goal. He shot wide from close.
In the 37th minute, Calangute Association’s Junior Carret, on receiving a pass from midfield, tried from a distance, only to see his effort go straight to the keeper.
Later Jovito Fernandes sent in a cross in the Salgaocar danger area, where Calangute striker Junior was lurking. But the latter failed to control the ball which was ultimately cleared by the opponent.
The second half was more of a midfield duel. The best chance of the game came to Calangute Association in the 77th minute when Junior attempted a header which beat the keeper D’Mello, but came off the crossbar. The rebound fell to Saiesh Halarnkar and the former Salgaocar player failed to keep his header in the frame. The goalkeeper was out of position and the lad should have done better.
Calangute's Moises D’Sa was named man of the match for his third consecutive game. The midfielder has been in fine form for Calangute and played a crucial role for his team so far.
