International Master Ameya Audi from Goa bestowed a classic form to perform magic moments over the board with his extraordinary skills after he beat all his rival opponents to score 9 pts from 9 rounds to remain unbeaten throughout the 2nd Venkatesh and Sumathi Shanbhagh Memorial All India Chess tournament.
In the crucial last round, Ameya defeated Reuben Colaco to reign the throne and walked away with a cash prize of Rs 20,000 and the rolling trophy, thus clinching the 2nd edition All India open rating, Venkatesh and Sumathi Shanbhagh Memorial, Chess title at the St Therese High School hall, Mangor, Vasco.
The tournament witnessed a record participation of 316 players from Goa as well as from different states and 6 foreign players, in which interestingly, Goan players completely dominated on their home ground.
Prizes were given to winners at the hands of Vinay Tendulkar, Rajya Sabha Member, President of GCA presided over the prize distribution function along with Chief guest Krishna Salkar, Vasco MLA, Sukant Shanbhag Sponsors, Kishor Bandekar President MTCA, Mukund Kambli Organising Secretary, Pundalik Naik, Jt Secretary Sujan Sukhtankar.
