In the past year (2025“2026), Goa recorded over 594 cases of assault, intimidation, and harassment involving police or law enforcement interactions, with at least 4 high-profile custodial brutality cases including two in 2026 (Maina-Curtorim and Fatorda). While not all 594 were strictly “police brutality,” these figures highlight widespread complaints of abuse and misconduct. Both the high-profile cases of 2026 involved minors. What is worse is that the Goa BJP government particularly the concerned Home Minister does not appear to be serious in addressing the menace? Citizens’ confidence in Goa Police is declining; however, the problem is also with the voters; People need to move away from Ministers/MLAs hero worship and start questioning/challenging them to provide proper governance.
