Govt must resolve recurring problem of waterlogging

Goa's smart city turned into a swamped city and exposed the vulnerabilities of smart city project.  As waterlogging disrupts life and sometimes even leads to horror stories of death and destruction.  Goa cannot handle the rain without getting choked almost every year during the monsoon season.  One of the major reasons for the flooding remains the city’s crumbling drainage network.  Patto, 18th June Road, St Inez easily sees people from across the state each day.  There’s no justification for this pathetic state of affairs.  The government has failed to take effective measures to prevent flooding in several parts of Panaji whenever heavy rains lash the capital city.  Roads have been pitted with deadly potholes.  Flooding is entirely manmade with poorly maintained drains, bad roads, shrinking open spaces and lackadaisical attitude of civic authorities to accumulation of water on roads after a heavy downpour and moreover corruption.  Rain water harvesting should be made mandatory.  The road stretches, which were already damaged due to substandard works have taken a severe beating in the rains. The authorities should come up with a permanent solution to resolve the issue.
