Govt needs to buck up on smart city projects


From delays in obtaining permissions to awaiting approvals from various government departments, projects taken up as part of the Smart City Panaji are struggling to meet deadlines. 

The data released by the Centre shows that out of 49 projects only 26 have been completed, 23 projects worth Rs 670 crore are yet to see the light of day. 

The Goa government has blamed its own organs for the miserable state of affairs, the stellar culprits being the PWD, Goa coastal zone management authority, the forest  and the tourism departments. 

The execution of works has been marked by utter chaos, lack of co-ordination, bureaucratic bungling, mega scams and what have you.

Beyond blaming their own, the sarkar hasn't given a time line or roadmap for completion of the remaining works. Only God knows how far the CM's claim that 33% of the works are complete are true.

Tighten screws on noise pollution

Authorities seem to be reluctant and hell bent on not taking action against violations of noise pollution as directed by Supreme Court.The stakeholders in tourism industry are also desperately trying to alter the timings beyond 10 pm and the permissible decibels levels during night and day. The measurements are to be taken by GSPCB at the nearest boundary of a place for which the permissions are granted and only during activity period and the reading cannot be combined…
