Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, while speaking to reporters recently, urged Goans to have faith in his government and not take to the streets if someone tries to disturb the religious harmony of the state. He claimed that his government was already working in the right direction on this issue and taking swift action against those who were still trying to hurt the religious sentiments of people of different faiths in Goa.
Today, one can practically find many non-Goan individuals/sympathizers belonging to right-wing organizations casually making derogatory remarks against other people’s gods/religions on a daily basis on social media, using fake IDs in Goa. Why is the government refusing to take action against all such communal elements on a top-priority basis if it is genuinely interested in maintaining religious harmony in Goa?
I believe that if CM Sawant wants people to have faith in his government and refrain from taking to the streets when someone tries to hurt their religious sentiments in the future, he should ensure that his government takes strong action against hate-mongers of all religions.
