In yet another accident involving multiple vehicles five persons had a miraculous escape after a speeding car rammed a scooter, a cyclist, hit an electricity pole and later crashed into a compound of a house along the road at Cortalim. The accident reportedly left three persons grievously injured. The accident at Banastarim also involving multiple cars, which left three persons dead and an equal number grievously injured, is still fresh in the mind of Goans. As a matter of fact numerous road accidents have been reported in the State over the past several months which have either ended in fatalities or have left the victims maimed for life. The trauma unit of the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) could be overburdened while treating accident victims as it could be crammed with such patients. Given the number of accident cases reported in the state including road accidents, fire accidents, drowning incidents, etc. it may seem necessary to have a separate government hospital dedicated to trauma cases only. The hospital should be capable of providing specialized medical services and resources to patients suffering from traumatic injuries.
