Importance of heritage structures undermined

This is with reference to the editorial 'Old Goa structure exposes systemic compromises' - The Goan Everyday November 23, 2021. It seems like life is going to be a continuous struggle in our country, judging from the way newer issues keep cropping up every now and then. The environment is being threatened by ill-conceived infrastructure projects and the greedy builders' lobby. The importance of heritage structures is being undermined. Take the Old Goa issue for instance, where a structure is coming up near the St Cajetan Church within the UNESCO-recognised area. It is heartening to note however, that the citizens in Goa and elsewhere are waking up, to stand up against the destructive designs of the party in power.

The underlying point is, do we always have to keep fighting for our environment, our heritage, for our rights? Don't we have other serious issues which need urgent attention rather than naming or renaming roads, etc.? And disrupting the lives of our fellow countrymen? Needless to say, the authorities need to focus their attention on preserving our environment, our heritage for our future generations. And of course, not to forget good governance.
