The number of Covid-19 positive cases emerging in Goa is really scary. In the light of the fact that the government is in no mood to impose a lockdown in the state, the citizens are left to fend for themselves from the deadly virus.
Besides following the pandemic related protocol, it seems absolutely necessary for those eligible to get vaccinated at the earliest. More and more people are getting vaccinated with every passing day which is a welcome sign.
In all this hustle and bustle the government should not forget the inmates of the various jails in the state. These convicts and undertrials, for obvious reasons, cannot come out for the inoculation like common citizens.
Getting the inmates to the vaccination centre would be a huge challenge for the jail authorities given the sheer number of those behind bars and it could also prove risky.
It would thus be desirable for the inmates to be inoculated within the jail premises.
The presence of even one Covid-19 positive case within the jail premises could lead to a rapid spread of the infection as social distancing may be difficult.
It must be said that shifting a jail inmate, who is tested Covid-19 positive, to the designated Covid Care Centre could pose a huge challenge.
The jail inmates should also be made to wear the mask within the premises and maintain social-distancing as far as possible.
