Earlier in the 70s the yellow taxi cabs were packing their taxis with passengers and it used to be a shared taxi. The poor unreliable public transport system has created holes in the pockets of the middle class consumers. If the hoteliers are giving the taxis owners an allotted space in their premises then a deal should be worked out between the owners of the hotels, taxis employed by the hoteliers and any terms and conditions offered to the customers who come to stay in the hotel should be clearly mentioned in the package when he books that particular hotel. The installation of meters on taxis is nothing but a gimmick. Why are the authorities not checking if these meters are really in operation ? Why burden the taxi owners. The government should come out clear in this assembly. It should be a win-win situation for all; the customer first, taxi owners and the government. Even if the government loses out on this, it is acceptable because the government has failed to provide jobs to them.What our taxi driver brothers need is a secure and steady income to take care of their families and retirement.
