Recently, Goa was abuzz with the hot topic of Kannadigas wanting to contest panchayat elections by putting up a front.
According to law, any Indian citizen can contest elections from any part of the country, so Kannadigas have every right to contest the panchayat election.
The point I would like to make is Kannadigas posing as niz Goenkars. Even if one is living in Goa for years together, it does not make you a Goenkar. Niz Goenkars are people who can trace their roots to several generations and who were born and brought up in Goa.
From my knowledge, in olden days, people from Karnataka were called ghantis as they would enter Goa through the ghats with their decorated cow or bull and collect rice and money.
Today, the situation is different and many people from Karnataka have got govt jobs and have businesses. Goa in fact is more than a Gulf country for them.
My humble request to Kannadigas is to respect Goans who have welcomed you and don’t try to rule us.
