Last week a 26-year old New Delhi woman who was a pillion rider on a rent-a-bike and travelling to Dabolim airport with her husband tragically lost her life when their suitcase grazed a car which was parked as its front tyre was punctured. The couple fell on the road when the bike went off-balance and the lady came under the wheels of an SUV that was also proceeding in the same direction. In no time a young woman’s life was snuffed out. We often see people, locals and tourists, carrying oversized bags on 2-wheelers. that can scrape against pedestrians and other motorists and lead to accidents. Traffic police should penalise people carrying heavy luggage on 2-wheelers as it is an offense as per motor vehicles rules. When people can spend for and on the journey, why be penny wise and pound foolish? They could safely travel by buses, autorickshaws or taxis to reach the bus terminuses, airports and railway stations. Just to save a few hundreds or couple of thousands of rupees, people put themselves and others too risk.
