Maintain uniformity in speed breakers, rumblers

In November 2017 there was a report about an official of Goa’s Public Works Department (PWD) stating that 85% of the speed breakers and rumbler strips in Goa are not as per the required specifications. He had stated that the contractors do not follow specifications and alleged that politicians interfered by asking that the heights of these structures be raised. This is difficult to believe because no contractor would do so and incur a loss.  Now finally after 6 years the PWD plans to have a policy to maintain a uniformity for these bone breaking structures. Two contractors, one each for each district, would be appointed to rectify the structures as per the specifications recommended by the Indian Roads Congress which lays down the norms for roads and highways. The earlier contractors should be penalised for not following the specifications and the amount recovered is to be paid to the new contractors. It is vital that the PWD install proper signboards at least 50-100 m before the speed breakers and rumblers are approached to caution the drivers and paint the structures with fluorescent colours.
