Margao market saw fire incident in a shop recently. The said market is old and has many shops in the Margao municipal market. The market is in a congested state and there is no provision for emergency exit for the people and both sides of the market there is a narrow road with vehicles parked. The Margao Municipal Council should think of renovating the market with full RCC structure giving no space for wooden or other material construction.
The market should be rebuilt with all facilities and fire service equipments. Shops without fire extinguishers should not be given trade license and one with trade license should not be renewed without fire extinguisher equipment and safety measures. The shop owners and municipal corporation should come together and with financial contribution have a new market place so that the people have ease of shopping. The condition of the market is worse in the rainy season as one cannot walk inside the market as there is no common roof with cement structure. Each shop owner has temporary shed with tarpaulin which is not enough. It's time to rebuild the Margao market with good facilities for people to do shopping.
