It’s well known that vote bank politics is a major menace in Goa, as corrupt/destructive politicians who want they want without fear, as they have vote banks who will always vote them into power and once in assembly these valueless MLAs will jump to the ruling party and in way manipulate/control the government with absolute arrogance.
However, the term vote bank seems to always relate to illegally set up Migrant vote banks in constituencies including Margao, Dabolim and even now the new entrant Curtorim under the current MLA; there is also another type of vote bank where locals are somehow under various ways made totally submissive to politicians and can suffer should they not vote for the respective politicians. This submission could be in terms of say land/agricultural/housing rights, jobs (how we see for example Jobs given by the concerned minister at Goa Medical College) and possibly other means. The example of the latter is constituency(s) under the Rane family stronghold; when they been constantly elected without any fear/opposition for past so many elections in Goa.
All this vote bank politics make the respective MLAs very arrogant, as we now see with the Rane Family MLAs, who appear to be doing what they want and whenever they want (with impunity); and the biggest casualty is Goa’s land, environment, hills, forests and waterbodies. We need to find an solution to this pain/menace.
