The Government of Goa has set up horticulture outlets to sell vegetables at subsidised rates under the Goa State Horticulture Corporation Ltd. However, many outlets no longer display prices or sell at subsidised rates, offering market-priced vegetables instead.
The horticulture department should ensure that only vegetables supplied by them are sold. Vendors claim the department’s produce is often of poor quality, with spoiled vegetables. To fulfil the purpose of these outlets, the department must supply fresh, edible vegetables and take strict action against those selling market-priced produce. Otherwise, these outlets are no different from regular vegetable shops.
