There is an urgent demand for a four-wheeler rail flyover or railway over bridge (ROB) in Utorda village, spanning between LC No. 43 (near Utorda Church) and LC No. 24A (Arrossim). Utorda villagers face continuous hardship due to the South Western Railway Line’s double tracking. It’s incumbent upon the railways and state government to swiftly implement mitigation measures to alleviate villagers’ daily struggles. Most villagers own four or two-wheelers. Denying them a four-wheeler rail flyover inconveniences them greatly. Constructing a two-wheeler flyover as an alternative to the demolished footbridge isn’t viable. Utorda needs a lasting solution: a rail flyover with walkways, minimizing damage to residences.
Despite 16 rail flyover projects sanctioned between Chandor and Cansaulim in 2020-21, none exist in Utorda. The majority of Utorda’s populace resides west of the railway, with crucial facilities on the east. The area faces heavy train traffic, and LC No. 43 may soon close permanently, exacerbating traffic congestion on the Utorda-Verna road. Without resolution, villagers must detour via Majorda rail underpass, leading to inevitable protests. Urgent widening of the Utorda-Verna road is imperative. Failure to address this issue will only intensify Utorda villagers’ suffering and spark unrest.
