Some of the fair price shops in Goa are still insisting on biometric finger scan to collect supply of food grains and other commodities even as Covid-19 pandemic is still raging.
Also, fair price shop owners insist that no other person can collect ration on behalf of others.
I have seen in Goa many fair price shops are insisting on biometrics for distributing ration even from vulnerable elderly people. By doing so there is a high possibility of the virus spreading.
Goans are still in the grip of this pandemic with many lives being lost daily in our State and the government should not put more people at risk by mandating the use of finger scan.
Elderly people are more vulnerable and forcing them to personally come to collect the ration puts them to even greater risk. Just because a few people are abusing the system others should not suffer.
With the government planning to distribute onions and grams, we can only expect huge crowd and queues at fair price shops.
Until the Covid situation improves, fair price shops should not insist on finger scan. We hope our CM and Civil Supplies minister is listening and will stop this practice for now.
